1. If $x$ is on top of $y$, $x$ is on the highest part of $y$.

   I can't get the book. It's on top of the bookcase.

2. If $x$ is on top of $y$, $x$ in control of $y$ or knows about $y$.

   There's a lot to learn, but I think I'm on top of it so far.

3. if $x$ happens on top of $y$, they both happen.

   On top of all the problems I had yesterday, my car broke down.
